So this blog has been around for a while and it doesn’t really get much traffic so I’m trying to increase the awareness of it. Unfortunately the skills necessary to build social networks are also the skills needed to build real social networks, and thus a skill that I’m not great at.

Fad

This is a new site trying to capitalize on the overdone theme of overheard sites;

Check it out or don’t, I don’t care.

Todays Fad: Creativity

February 11, 2010

It’s become ever more apparent that the idea to which all inovation is built, is become a sort of cliche, consider how the word is used these days. Social networks are often describe as create endeavors, but the reality is that they are just copies of ideas and forms of expression that already existed. These days what we consider art, is more like a photocopy than a creative expression.  Popular music is more often then not, a throw back to another time, most notable the 80′s with the re-emergence of ‘New Wave’.

Taking a look at what could be called the new ‘creative outlets’ like YouTube and 4Chan, we see nothing but repeats of repeats, a mash-up is nothing more then a copy of something that was creative in days gone by. For how long can pictures of cats with words (lolcats) be impressive, it’s already bland to me.

Facebook is another example of modern expression, best put it is anti-individuality and counter-creative.  Every page is exactly the same, if you’ve seen one profile, you have seen them all, aside from a few words and a picture or two.

Crowd the cloud, dissidents and radicals are being marginalized more and more with this new method of information gathering and distribution. The crowd or cloud is a perfect example of mind-space control, driving out opinions that differ from the normal is nothing more then normal these days, not to say that was the case before, just that the Internet created an opportunity that never existed before, but is already being taken away.

So whats the point?  Most likely that this whole entry lacks creativity, but more importantly that we are all losing our sense of creativity, or at least our expression of it. The world is embarking on a journey into a new dark-ages, the people of tomorrow will look back and say we ‘were a photocopy culture.’

Todays Fad: Twitter

December 3, 2009

Its been a long time since I’ve had a fad to talk about or found the time to think about fads, or maybe just this blog.

Today I had a big smile on my face. Twitter was something my step-mother asked me about, I figure if she’d heard of it and was asking, it was something. I’ve used it for awhile and had some followers; then less, then more, hope it’s still growing.  Also figure out how to use it as a form of content, makes me figure people are making money. Maybe I could make money before it dies.

And that smile, I got an @ from my hero.

Poor Intuition

March 24, 2009

My intuition is pretty bad and I say that not to sound to rad, been lazy been mad, haven’t made to much of this time wasted by this lame rhyme.

Truth be told I went to the store and bought some donuts and some pop, could have easily just said no, now i see that is the way I should go, but instead went somewhere else and made a bigger mess.  Should be good, should be bad, eating shit is pretty sad.

Blah Blah, all these words are still and a waste of time, most of them don’t seem to be worth the time, yeah yeah yeah.

I should change thigns and make them a little better, but as time has told that is an idea that seems to be getting old.

March 5, 2009

I’m smart but under utilized:
Today I did something very special, but in fact it was very simple.
All I had to do was burn a simple CD from a file I found online, the file was found on a website in the form of a midi file, looking at the source for the page the location of the actually midi file was found as it was embedded in the original page, from the location I saved the file onto my computer. Then searched the internet for a program that could convert midi files to mp3/wav files, which was really easy, then discovering this computer had no burning software I searched for another free program that could do that task. Creating a CD it worked fine, strolling into a classroom and placing the CD in the player the sweet sounds of Skip to my Lou came out of the speakers.

In psychology, apprehension (Lat. ad, “to”; prehendere, “to seize”) is a term applied to a model of consciousness in which nothing is affirmed or denied of the object in question, but the mind is merely aware of (“seizes”) it.[dubious ]

“Judgment” (says Reid, ed. Hamilton, i. p. 414) “is an act of the mind, specifically different from simple apprehension or the bare conception of a thing”. “Simple apprehension or conception can neither be true nor false.” This distinction provides for the large class of mental acts in which we are simply aware of, or “take in” a number of familiar objects, about which we in general make no judgment, unless our attention is suddenly called by a new feature. Or again, two alternatives may be apprehended without any resultant judgment as to their respective merits.

Similarly, G. F. Stout stated that while we have a very vivid idea of a character or an incident in a work of fiction, we can hardly be said in any real sense to have any belief or to make any judgment as to its existence or truth. With this mental state may be compared the purely aesthetic contemplation of music, wherein apart from, say, a false note, the faculty of judgment is for the time inoperative. To these examples may be added the fact that one can fully understand an argument in all its bearings, without in any way judging its validity. Without going into the question fully, it may be pointed out that the distinction between judgment and apprehension is relative. In every kind of thought, there is judgment of some sort in a greater or less degree of prominence.

Judgment and thought are in fact psychologically distinguishable merely as different, though correlative, activities of consciousness. Professor Stout further investigates the phenomena of apprehension, and comes to the conclusion that “it is possible to distinguish and identify a whole without apprehending any of its constituent details.” On the other hand, there is an expectation that such details will, as it were, emerge into consciousness. Hence, he describes such apprehension as “implicit,” and in so far as the implicit apprehension determines the order of such emergence, he describes it as “schematic“.

A good example of this process is the use of formulae in calculations; ordinarily the formula is used without question; if attention is fixed upon it, the steps by which it is shown to be universally applicable emerge, and the “schema ” is complete in detail. With this result may be compared Kant‘s theory of apprehension as a synthetic act (the “synthesis of apprehension”) by which the sensory elements of a perception are subjected to the formal conditions of time and space.

Drugs are Bad

March 7, 2008

So I haven’t smoked weed in more then 3 months, today I said to myself if the opportunity arise without my interference then I can do it.  Low and behold the universe realigned in my favour and the opportunity was provided, I however declined. Reason being I read a scary story about being drug tested and having THC in your system was reason enough for an arrest (Not in Canada). Anyhow, I also had a goal on my list today to read about Visas for the said country of concern, I however didn’t do this before the opportunity. After the opportunity had passed I looked up the necessary information and found that the Drug test did not have to be administer for up to 90 days., long enough for the THC to clear out of any system. So what did I learn? Not much, only that I should have completed all of my goals in the appropriate time and then been able to take advantage of the opportunites that arose.

Trivial Pursuit

March 6, 2008

The name says it all. It maybe fun but the facts are trivial, in fact in the game the only useful facts are found in the science category. Why else would you need to know any fact about history, the arts, sports or literature except while playing the game, writing an essay at school, or even more unlikely while being a contestant on Jeopardy.

Nowadays facts aren’t worth remembering, almost any fact can be found quite quickly on the Internet with a proper search.

We should be concerned about knowing how to think not remember useless facts, thinking has practical applications facts don’t.

So next time your playing and lose, don’t worry in fact be glad at least you know your head isn’t filled with useless bits of information, just as long as you can find them when you need them you will be just fine.
